Records On The Comeback

Record Sales Are Heating Up!

There are numerous articles online claiming vinyl record sales doubled in 2008. Apparently almost 2 million vinyl albums were sold beating out the previous record of 1.5 million in 2000. (That’s about the time Napster hit the street.) It has been reported independent music stores have sold a high percentage of these LPs.

I’m seeing a lot of interesting re-issues on the shelves of NYC independent music stores. I’ve also seen stacks of a select few re-issues at Urban Outfitters and a random collection in the basement of a Barnes and Noble in Manhattan. I guess they will be in Starbucks before long. Or who knows? Maybe record stores will re-open. And they will sell records.

Until these mythical stores make a comeback you can buy records direct from the Amazon.com Record Department. They even have used vinyl options for those looking to recycle.

Checked out that Amazon link. They have a lot of cool albums available on there. Can you recommend any good turntables available for a reasonable price. Mine is busted!

Hey B-Side! check out the AT-PL120. I’m considering getting one of these myself if I can’t replace the needle on the one I have.
